Les Miserables is keen to wrestle emotion from its viewers with its tragic deaths and heartfelt warbling, but I’m sure I wasn’t the only viewer to find a different kind of emotion rising when the student revolutionaries came on screen. Aaron Tveit’s Enjolras and George Blagden’s Grantaire in particular made overthrowing the government hot!
I also have a weakness for a guy who can sing, so for me they really are the full package.
Aaron Tveit is the better known, having played Trip van der Bilt in Gossip Girl and he was also James Franco’s lover, Peter Orlovsky, in Howl. Tveit’s done plenty of work on the stage too, originating the roles of Gabe in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal and Frank Abagnale Jr. in the musical version of Catch Me If You Can.
George Blagden is more of a newcomer, having only graduated from London’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama in June 2011. He got the small role of ‘Soldier 1’ in Wrath Of The Titans before landing the meatier Grantaire in Les Miserables. He’s also shot The Philosophers and will be seen in the upcoming TV series Vikings. We also discovered the music video Left Behind which he appears in and which we’ve embedded below.
