British sitcoms can’t normally claim major international star power, but Vicious brings together gay acting legends Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi and also features the likes of Frances De La Tour (who no Brits will recognise as Harry Potter’s Madame Maxime) and Misfits star Iwan Rheon.
The sitcom sees McKellen and Jacobi as an ageing gay couple, Freddie and Stuart, living in London’s Covent Garden, who still aren’t ‘out’ despite being together for 48 years. De La Tour plays the couple’s feisty best friend Violet, while Rheon is their new neighbour, Ash.
The series was co-created by Will & Grace writer Gary Janetti and award-winning playwright Mark Ravenhill, with Ed Bye (Red Dwarf) directing. There’s no definite air date set for the show yet, but it’s expected to his UK screens towards the end on April.
