It would have been a bit odd if the only gay person at Hogwarts was Dumbledore, but there’s been no confirmation before now that he wasn’t the sole anomaly in a sea of straightness surrounding Harry Potter.
Now someone on Twitter has prompted JK Rowling to address the issue, and while she declined to name names, she confirmed that ‘of course’ there were LGBT people at the school.
The user, @claraoswiin, asked, “Do you think there are a lot of LGBT students in modern age Hogwarts? It’s safe to assume that Hogwarts had a variety of people and I like to think it’s a safe place for LGBT students”.
Rowling, who’s long been a supporter of gay rights, responded with the perfect Tweet below.

The author also recently confirmed she’s completely the initial work on the screenplay for the Potter spin-off trilogy, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with the first of those movies due in cinemas November 2016.
