The trials and tribulations of gay teenagers is a perennial subject for gay filmmakers, and that’s certainly true here. Ruben & Mike follows Ruben, who’s constantly bullied for being gay at school, but hopes he’s finally found a real connection when he goes on a date with Mike.
However, he discovers that life isn’t always that easy, especially when other homophobic teenagers are involved. It’s a sweet and sometimes rather sad short film (actually at times it’s a little melodramatic), but well worth a watch and it makes a powerful stand against bullying, of whatever form it takes.
