It was revealed earlier this year the the upcoming Doctor Who spin-off would feature a gay lead character. The reaction caught head writer, Patrick Ness, by surprise, as he didn’t realise that people would be that interested in, and has said on a few occassions that really, in 2016 it’s not big deal (although he was added ‘Except of course it is a big deal, I know; 15-year-old me never got to see himself; that won’t happen again, not on my watch.’)
That doesn’t mean it hasn’t added caused a few extra people to pay attention to the show. Now a new trailer has arrived, which looks really good, and even includes a brief same-sex kiss, to help underline that there’ll be actual gay content and not just a character who says they’re gay.
It seems the gay character is Charlie, played by Greg Austin, as evidenced by the brief smooch.
Class is set at set at Coal Hill Academy, with the sixth formers there having to deal with all manner of monsters and aliens, due to the fabric of space and time stretching thin. Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah play the other teend, with Katherine Kelly as unusual physics teacher Miss Quill. And as the trailer shows, Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will also be showing us.
The first episode of the show premieres in the UK on October 22nd, and will be available through BBC iPlayer. Watch the trailer below.
