Killing Season Trailer – John Travolta faces off against Robert De Niro

I’m not entirely sure what’s happened to John Travolta, but it looks like he’s got a case of Mickey Rourke plasticine face in this trailer for Killing Season. Even so it looks like the movie could be okay.

The movie is about two veterans of the Bosnian War, one American, one Serbian, who clash in the remote Rocky Mountain wilderness. Ford (De Nrio) is a former American soldier who fought on the front lines in Bosnia. He has retreated to a remote cabin in the woods, trying to escape painful memories of war. The drama begins when Kovac (Travolta), a former Serbian soldier, seeks Ford out, hoping to settle an old score. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game in which Ford and Kovac fight their own personal World War III, with battles both physical and psychological.

The movie is due out in the US on July 12th. [Read more...]

The Family Trailer – Robert De Niro teams with Luc Besson and goes gangster again

If you look through Robert De Niro’s CV, he hasn’t actually made all that many gangster films, but the ones he’s done have become so iconic that he’s perennially associated with the subgenre. Now he’s back in gangster territory for Luc Besson’s The Family, and we’ve got the first trailer and poster.

In the film, ‘A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni, his wife Maggie and their children Belle and Warren can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.’

The film is due out in the autumn. [Read more...]

Last Vegas Teaser Trailer – De Niro, Douglas & Freeman star in the ‘old boys Hangover’

Last Vegas has been described as the ‘old boys Hangover’ with the likes of Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline (who are all, incidentally, Oscar winners) heading to Vegas and inevitably getting into trouble. Now the first teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Billy (Michael Douglas), Paddy (Robert De Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman) and Sam (Kevin Kline) have been best friends since childhood. So when Billy, the group’s sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days. However, upon arriving, the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it’s these four who are taking over Vegas.’

It should hit cinemas on November. [Read more...]

Christoph Waltz Going To The Candy Store With Robert De Niro

christoph-waltzAfter his Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained double whammy, Christoph Waltz will now have to see if he can win an Oscar for a movie that isn’t directed by Quentin Tarantino. Perhaps The Candy Store will be that film, which he’s just signed up to appear in, according to Variety.

He joins Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke and Omar Sy in the movie, from Academy Award-winning writer and director Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana).

The Candy Store interweaves several storylines set against the backdrop of the criminal underworld in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. A former covert operative (Jason Clarke) discovers the organisation he was dedicated to fighting is now operating in his new backyard.

When he teams up with a disgraced local cop (Robert De Niro), their investigation leads them to an international sex trade entrepreneur (Omar Sy), a Cold War consigliere posing as a typical American suburbanite (Christoph Waltz), and a beautiful girl wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan.

Gaghan will direct and produce from a script he co-wrote with Shannon Burke. Shooting kicks off in the next couple of months.

Robert De Niro is set to play the former cop.

Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf Up For Spy’s Kid

shia-labeoufShia LaBeouf may have said he’s done with Hollywood movies, but that doesn’t mean he’s completely eschewing commercial filmmaking, as he’s now in talks to star in Spy’s Kid (which thankfully has nothing to do with Spy Kids) alongside Robert de Niro, according to THR. The film will reunite D.J. Caruso, after they made 2008′s Eagle Eye together.

The film is set in the world of espionage, based on a series of true-life articles that ran in the Oregonian. Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf will play a father and son duo, with the story revolving around a traitorous spy who enlists his offspring to continue doing his dirty work.

Both actors’ final involvement in the project hinges on the screenplay. No writer has been hired at this time, so it’s very early days.

It took many by surprise when Silver Linings Playbook picked up eight Oscar nominations, as while it got decent reviews, few thought it was a serious Academy Award contender. However, as the ceremony approached it picked up momentum to the point where many thought there was a decent possibility of it taking the Best Picture prize. In the end its only gong was a much deserved Bst Actress award for Jennifer Lawrence, but you can certainly see why it became a bit of a sleeper awards contender. [Read more...]

Grudge-Match-set-photoWhoever had the idea of putting Sylvester ‘Rocky’ Stallone and Robert ‘Raging Bull’ De Niro in a boxing movie together was a pretty smart cookie. New Year’s Eve gives us a look into the way in which we all cross over into each other’s lives on a daily basis without even knowing it, amongst a combination of romance, heartache, laughter and sadness.

With an all-star ensemble cast the audience gets to enjoy the many different plots, in what reminded me of films such as Love Actually. The film is generally good and moves at a steady pace so the audience won’t get bored as they keep zigzagging through the multiple stories, some of which are much better than others. [Read more...]
