New Disney’s Planes Trailer Is Flying High & Looking Very Pretty

Disney’s Planes started out life years ago as a direct-to-DVD project, based on the world of Pixar’s Cars but made by the House Of Mouse’s DisneyToon Studios subsidiary. However they eventually decided to turn it into a theatrical feature, and this new trailer gives a hint as to why.

The decision to turn it from DVD to cinema came around the same time 3D took off in cinema, and this promo certainly shows off the three-dimensional potential of the movie, as well as looking incredibly pretty indeed.

Disney’s Planes is described as an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty, a big hearted crop duster and his dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. It’ll hit cinemas this August.

Europa Report Trailer – Sharlto Copley heads for Jupiter’s moons

Europa Report has been flying under the radar, but on the evidence of this trailer, there’s a decent chance it’ll be a sleeper success, with Sharlto Copley and Michael Nyqvist heading into space.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Europa Report follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean could exist underneath Europa’s icy surface and may contain single-celled life, Europa Ventures, a privately funded space exploration company, sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discoveries that may lie in the Europan ocean. After a near-catastrophic technical failure that leads to loss of communication with Earth and the tragic death of a crewmember, the surviving astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.’

The film is out in the US in August 2nd, but no UK date has been set yet. [Read more...]

New Pacific Rim Trailer – Guillermo Del Toro’s cancels the apocalypse in truly epic style

In a summer filled with sequels and movies based on known properties, the original movie that’s looking the most exciting is definitely Pacific Rim, and the latest trailer suggests this is going to be a movie told on a truly epic scale. Indeed it’s look pretty awesome.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.’

The movie opens July 12th. [Read more...]

Rio 2 Teaser – The parrots are coming back and they’ll be dancing

Rio 2 may not be out until April 2014, but the first teaser has now arrived, which follows the time-tested idea of promoting kids film, which is to dispense with the story and just have dancing animals instead.

When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. Rio 2 will feature new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monáe and The Wondaland Arts Society, who also voices a role in the film.’

Riddick Trailer – Vin Diesel is back in sci-fi fantasy land

A few weeks ago we had a teaser for Riddick (it was a tease too, as it was only 22 seconds), but now the full trailer has been released, which actually looks pretty cool, even if they have pulled back on the OTT sci-fi operatics of The Chronicles Of Riddick.

Here’s the plot synopsis: ‘In the film, the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

‘The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.’

It should hit cinemas this autumn.

The Congress Trailer – A fascinating, strange live-action, animation hybrid

And the award for most nuts looking trailer of the year so far goes too…

The movie is a mix of live-action and animation from Waltz With Bashir director Ari Folman, featuring a great list of actors, including Robin Wright playing herself, along with Kodi Smit-McPhee, Danny Huston, Harvey Keitel and Paul Giamatti.

The film is a loose adaptation of Stanislaw Lem’s The Futurological Congress, a 1971 black humour science fiction detailing the exploits of the hero of a number of his books, Ijon Tichy, as he visits the Eighth World Futurological Congress at the Costa Rica Hilton. However as you can see from the trailer, the film is quite different, with Robin Wright having her career pronounced dead, so she sells her likeness to a company that will use her as a sample – and that’s when things get animated.

The film premieres at Cannes. [Read more...]

As I Lay Dying Trailer – James Franco takes on a William Faulkner novel

You could be forgiven you not knowing James Franco had directed any movies, but he’s actually made quite a few, although the likes of The Broken Tower and Sal have been small, arty and not seen by many people.

Now he’s going a little more high profile with As I Lay Dying, an adaptation of a William Faulkner novel that will be playing at Cannes. Before its festival debut, a trailer has been released, giving us a feel for movie. As with Franco’s other movies, it gives the impression of being made incredibly quickly, which in this case could actually be a bonus.

It charts the story of the Bundren family and their attempts to bury Addie Bundren in the town of Jefferson. [Read more...]
