Nicolas Cage is a man who marches to the beat of his own drummer, which has resulted in some great film and an awful lot of dreck. We’ll have to wait and see which end of that spectrum Black Butterfly ends up on, but THR reports that Cage has signed up to star in the movie, marking German production company Bavariapool’s first English-language production.
Cage will portray Paul, a reclusive author who becomes friends with a shady drifter, a relationship that ends up having fatal consequences. German actress Veronica Ferres (Adam Resurrected) will also star in an unknown role.
Brian Goodman (What Doesn’t Kill You) will direct Black Butterfly, which is based on the French TV movie, Papillon Noir. In that, ex-footballer Eric Cantona starred as the drifter, Jack, while Stéphane Freiss played the author, Richard. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2012 in eastern Germany.
