Alan Turing is starting to get the recognition he richly deserves for his pivotal work that helped give birth to modern computing (and fought the Nazis in the process), but the fact he was gay doesn’t tend to be trumpeted as much. Indeed his horrific persecution due to his sexuality (where chemical castration was pretty much forced upon him) eventually led to his suicide, but that’s a bit of a downer so it tends to get buried in the background.
The guys at Manchester’s Pink Triangle Theatre group obviously think the same, as they’ve made this 15 minute short movie, which may be a tad loose at times but does a good job of dealing with the fact the Turing has tended to be rather ignored, and attempts to redress the balance.
Channel 4 is showing a drama documentary about Turing, called ‘Britain’s Greatest Codebreaker’ on Monday 21st November at 9pm, but take a look at this short first.
