Jonah Hill must be feeling pretty pleased with himself today. It was his idea to turn the 80s TV show 21 Jump Street into a modern buddy cop comedy, which has turned out to be a great success.
Even before the weekend numbers were in, Sony seemed confident they had a hit, as Variety reports they’re already working on a sequel, with Hill once more producing and working on the story, and Michael Bacall writing the screenplay. Bacall worked on the first 21 Jump Street film, as well as Project X and Scott Pilgrim.
There’s no info on what the follow-up may be about, or when we might see it, although with the box office numbers for 21 Jump Street already racking up, Sony is likely to want to get it in cinemas as soon as possible!
At the moment it’s very early days, so it’s not known whether directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return, and it isn’t thought Channing Tatum is currently signed for sequel, so they’ll need to bring him onboard too.
