Tommy Lee Jones showed he was a pretty good director with 2005’s The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, but since then he’s only helmed the TV movie The Sunset Limited. However, a few months ago he revealed plans to direct his passion project, The Homesman, and it appears he’s getting some heavyweight female talent to star, as TheWrap reports Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank are both attached to the movie.
The period drama is about on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Swank) in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements along the way. It’s not 100% clear who Streep will play, but she could well be one of the mad ladies.
There’s no news on when the movie might shoot, but that may become clearer after the upcoming American Film Market, where the film will be looking for buyers.
