Jack Nicholson’s screen roles have become ever rarer. We’ve only had two films from him in the last two years, How Do You Know in 2010 and The Bucket List in 2007. However now Warner Bros. is trying to lure him back in front of the camera according to THR, offering Nicholson a pivotal role in their courtroom drama, The Judge. Robert Downey Jr. is already attached to star, and Nicholson would play his father.
Downey Jr. will play an attorney, who returns home for his mother’s funeral. The lawyer comes to learn that his father is suspected of killing her mom. He must defend his dad, a judge with Alzheimer’s disease, reconnecting with the man he walked away from years ago.
It isn’t known if the two-time Oscar winner, who is famously picky about which roles he takes on, will accept the offer. Nick Schenk (Gran Torino) penned the original screenplay, with Bill Dubuque offering rewrites. David Dobkin will direct. The plan is to shoot sometime next year.
