A few days ago it was revealed that despite the BBC’s successful mini-series of Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong only airing a few months ago, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt is planning to take on a movie version, which is currently looking for backers at the Berlin Film Festival.
Now the first cast member has been announced, with Variety reporting that Nicholas Hoult has signed on for the starring role.
Faulks’ novel is set before and during the First World War, following a young British man, Stephen Wraysford (Hoult), who gets involved in a relationship with a married French woman. When war breaks out he ends up as a soldier amidst the carnage of the front lines.
Nobody has yet been cast as the woman, which Clémence Poésy played in the mini-series.
