A movie version of The Equalizer has been in the works for a long time, and it finally looked like it was moving forward with Denzel Washington starring and Rupert Wyatt directing. However recently Wyatt became the latest in a fairly long list of helmer to pick up and then drop the project.
Now Olympus Has Fallen director Antoine Fuqua is in early talks to direct The Equalizer, according to Deadline. Washington is still attached to star, and is probably more than happy with the idea of Fuqua helming, seeing as he won an Oscar for the director’s Training Day.
Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay, based on the hit TV series The Equalizer, which ran for four seasons between 1985 and 1989. The show was about Robert McCall (Edward Woodward), a former covert operative who lives a life of solitude and devotes himself to helping others in need. The movie will follow that basic premise, with Denzel Washington portraying a modern character who truly despises any form of injustice.
The $50 million movie is eyeing a late spring/early summer shoot in Boston.
