Universal Pictures had a problem last week when Justin Lin stepped away from helming Fast & Furious 7 due to the quick production schedule the studio wanted. However Universal still want to aim for a summer 2014 release, so they’ve quickly been looking for a replacement and now Deadline reports that they’re working on a deal with Saw and Insidious helmer James Wan to direct the movie.
Justin Lin directed the last four instalments of the franchise, but didn’t want to be prepping Part 7 as he completed Part 6. He seems quite happy about his replacement though, commenting, “I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.”
Contraband helmer Baltasar Kormákur, Jeff Wadlow and Harald Zwart were also being considered.
