Jim Carrey has been busy trying to revive his career, and while The Incredible Burt Wonderstone didn’t work out too well, he’ll be hoping better from Kick-Ass 2 and Loomis Fargo. Now he’s added another movie to the list, as THR reports he’s signed up to star in Ricky Stanicky.
The trade paper says, the film is ‘an ensemble comedy in the vein of The Hangover, and begins when three teens pull a prank and burn down a house in their neighborhood’. To get out of trouble, the gang invents a fictional scapegoat called Ricky Stanicky, a figure they continue to use to get out of scrapes over the next 20 years. However things get tricky when their wives and girlfriends get fed up with hearing about the irresponsible Ricky and demand to meet him, so the guys have to hire an out of work actor to play him.
It’s not clear which role Carrey is up for, although it is known James Franco was previously attached to the Ricky role, which Jim could have taken over.
Steve Oedekerk, with whom Carrey worked on both Bruce Almighty and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, is currently rewriting the script (based on Jeff Bushell’s original screenplay) and will also direct.
