It took a long time to get from the initial idea of bringing the Vacation series of films back to the big screen to the movie actually preparing to shoot this summer. However now a spanner has been thrown in the works, as THR reports that New Line Cinema is delaying production, so that the movie will no longer start filming in Atlanta this July.
It’s unclear how long the delay will be, as while one source indicates the delay may only be a couple of months long, another suggests that the start of principal photography may be pushed until late this year. That may be problematic though, as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are making their directorial debut from their own screenplay. However Daley is better known as Sweets in Bones, and if the shoot in pushed to the autumn his acting commitments will clash with his directing plans.
Sources claim that creative differences are to blame for the delay, with some involved wanting to make this a broader PG-13 movie, while others want an R-rated comedy, like the original Vacation.
Ed Helms and Christina Applegate are attached to star as Rusty Griswold and his wife, with Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo also set to cameo as Clark Griswold and Ellen Grisworld.
Hopefully the problems will get sorted out and we’ll finally get to see the movie.
