Jessica Chastain has tended to stick with dramas and Oscar-worthy fare, without going too far into the mainstream, but now she’s headed towards one of next year’s biggest sci-fi projects, as Deadline reports that Chastain is in talks to star in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
The actress will play the third lead, joining Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in the movie. Little is known about the story, although it’s been said it’s about a journey into outer space that redefines what we know about science and technology.
Originally set to be directed Steven Spielberg in its first incarnations, the idea for the movie was be based on the theories of physicist Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes actually exist, and can be used for time travel.
Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. It’s not clear when it will shoot, but a release date of November 7th, 2014 is already set.
