When Mission: Impossible 4 was announced, it was suggested Tom Cruise was planning to hand the franchise on to another agent. However when his other films started faltering at the box office, his role in the movie was expanded.
Then it became one of his biggest grossing movies ever, which seems to have made Cruise realise this isn’t a golden egg he should leave behind, as Deadline has confirmed that he’s now officially committed to appear as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 5.
Jack Reacher helmer Christopher McQuarrie has been mentioned to direct the movie, but no deal has been finalised yet. McQuarrie also wrote the script for Cruise’s 2008 World War II drama Valkyrie, and provided uncredited screenplay polishes on All You Need Is Kill and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.
