George Clooney is already set for Tomorrowland and now director Brad Bird is looking for a female lead to star opposite him. He’s narrowing things down, with THR reporting that Britt Robertson (The Secret Circle, Under the Dome) and Naomi Scott (Terra Nova) are testing for role.
The studio has reportedly spent months searching for the right actress, with Shailene Woodley considered as an early candidate.
Both actresses will undergo a full hair and makeup test in Vancouver next month for the role of Casey Newton, who’s described as a rebellious teenage girl who approaches a cranky inventor named Frank (Clooney) to unravel the mystery behind Tomorrowland, a world that exists in a parallel dimension to ours. The Casey Newton part has been described as a “star-making” opportunity for whoever is chosen.
Hugh Laurie has been cast as the villain, with Raffey Cassidy playing a child robot who joins Casey and Frank on their journey. Brad Bird is directing Tomorrowland from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. A December 12, 2014 release date has already been set.
