It’s been 17 years since Independence Day was released, and in all that time the likes of Will Smith and director Roland Emmerich have continued to talk about sequels. However it’s only in the last couple of years its seemed more like a reality, and there’s even been titles for two more films, ID Forever Parts One and Two.
Now its got even closer to the screen, as 20th Century Fox has set a July 3rd, 2015 release date for the first of those planned new movies. Of course, a date is no guarantee it’ll actually happen, but it’s a strong indication that things have progressed to the point where Fox is confident it’s likely to go forward.
No concrete details on the plot have been revealed, although Bill Pullman has said that he definitely wants to return, with Will Smith also likely to be back as Steven Hiller. Expect more info soon.
