White House Down director Roland Emmerich already has a bit of history with alien invasions thanks to Independence Day, and now he’s returning to the genre by acquiring a pitch for a sci-fi project entitled Emergence, which he will direct.
The pitch comes from writer Nic Kelman, which Deadline reporting that it offers, “A new take on an alien invasion story containing hot-button science elements.” Unfortunately there’s no details on exactly what makes this invasion different. Kelman should be good at adding the science though, as he has a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT, and a Masters of Fine Arts from Brown University.
There’s no studio attached as yet, and it isn’t known if this will be Emmerich’s next movie. He’s also developing Singularity at Sony, and is attached to direct Asteroids, The Zone, Foundation, and the Independence Day sequels ID Forever – Part 1 and ID Forever – Part 2.
