There was a big gap between District 9 and Elysium, but director Neill Blomkamp is working hard to ensure his next movie doesn’t take as long. He’s already signed up old cohort Sharlto Copley for the movie, and now THR reports that Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel is in early talks for the movie.
If he does sign on, the movie would take him back to the slums, as while much of the story is being kept under wraps, it is known that Chappie is based on a 2005 short by Blomkamp, called Tetra Vaal, which was a fake ad for a robotic police force patrolling the slums of South Africa (you can watch that below). It certainly seems Blomkamp is keeping with the sci-fi with a social edge.
Blomkamp’s next movie, Elysium hits US cinemas on August 9th and comes to the UK on August 26th.
