At the moment we’d take this with a pinch of salt, but it’s certainly likely to get the fanboys interested. A rumour has emerged that Marvel Studios is eyeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their top candidate to play Doctor Strange.
Latino Review first reported the rumour, but it should be remembered that at the moment Marvel hasn’t even officially announced a Doctor Strange movie is definitely going to be made, although they have set release dates for three movies in 2016 and 2017, one of which is believed to be Doctor Strange.
According to Latino Review, no official offer hasn’t been made to the actor, but it’s said Marvel executives are internally discussing the possibility of hiring the actor soon.
The 32-year-old Joseph Gordon-Levitt is just the right age for the part, since the Sorcerer Supreme in Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer’s script is crafted for someone in their early 30s. Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.
Although Marvel is known for revealing new actors at Comic-Con, it’s not believed JGL is aware of the Doctor Strange discussion surrounding him, so he won’t be coming out on the stage this weekend in San Diego.
