Just yesterday we reported that James Cameron has hired Josh Friedman to help with the script for Avatar 2. Now we know why he’s keen to get a hand, as while we knew he was working on Avatar 2 & 3, Variety reports that it was revealed today that Avatar 4 is also being planned.
It’s not just Friedman who’s been hired to help with the screenplay though, as Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages) have also been signed to collaborate with Cameron on the screenplays for Avatar 2, 3, 4.
While a 2015 release for Avatar 2 had been bandied about, for a long time that’s seemed optimistic. Now it’d been revealed that part 2 will hit cinemas December 2016, with the other two coming December 2017 and 2018.
Filming on the live-action and motion-capture parts of the film will start early next year, with all the movies being shot at once (so that’s a hell of a lot of screenplay to cover, explaining why so many writers are needed).
