Director Darren Aronofsky is still putting the final touches on his biblical epic Noah, but he’s already looking towards his next project, as Deadline reports that he is circling Red Sparrow for 20th Century Fox.
He’s in early talks to develop and direct the adaptation of Jason Matthews’ novel, which is set in modern-day Russia. The story follows Dominika Egorova, a spy forced into becoming a ‘sparrow’, who is trained to seduce rival agents. Her first assignment is a CIA operative tasked with handling Russian intelligence, but they soon fall for one another, threatening both their careers and the identities of moles in both the American and Russian governments.
20th Century Fox bought the rights back in April, winning a bidding war that involved multiple studios. There’s no news on when it might shoot.
