Back in April we reported that director Jon Garcia was seeking funding for a follow-up to his great gay-themed flick, The Falls. Well, he got the cash and the movie will premiere on October 5th at the Portland Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, with a US DVD release set for November.
The first film followed young Mormon missionaries RJ and Chris, who fall for one another despite the fact they know they risk excommunication if their relationship is discovered.
The sequel, ‘picks up five years after the doomed romance between Mormon missionaries RJ and Chris. Though their lives have taken radically different paths, the death of a mutual friend unexpectedly reunites the two men at a time when both are attempting to establish their adult lives. As old feelings of love and regret are rekindled, RJ and Chris must once again confront their seemingly impossible love. Will their reunion prove that they’re fated to be together, or is it merely a temporary fantasy?’
The trailer makes it seem like it’ll be well worth a look, with one of the men having embraced his sexuality, while the other has put the church first and done his best to be straight, complete with wife and kid.

Humans living in this world can also be divided between those who are charitable toward others’ institutional beliefs and those who are not. Isn’t it better to treat others with kindness and understanding than to ridicule them? The Mormon Church is trying to help its members show love and compassion toward homosexuals and to encourage its homosexual members, as it does the rest of us, to get close to our Heavenly Father, find out what he counsels, and act accordingly.
I am sorry for anyone who seems to feel the need to attack or ridicule the institutional beliefs of others.

If you watch The Falls you’ll see that it doesn’t ridicule the Mormon Church at all, it merely tries to show the difficulty faced by two young men dealing with feeling their church tells them are wrong and the decisions they make about that. I have no doubt the sequel will be the same.
There is no attack or ridicule, just a disagreement over the church’s stance in the film.

The first movie was good and the ending led me to believe that they wind up together. If there was going to be a sequel this is not the direction I feel it should have taken. That being said, I won’t watch this sequel after seeing the trailer because it ruins the first movie for me. I don’t know if they will wind up together at the end of the sequel but I will stick with the interpretation of what I believe was the ending of the first movie.
When I read there was going to be a sequel I assumed it was going to be a continuation of there journey after winding up together. It would have made a much better movie.

How do you know ? You won’t even watch the movie and yet you compare it with one which doesn’t exist ! If you watch the sequel, you will find out that the first movie ends the way you think…but that after some time together, Chris burnt bridges with R.J. It’s a great sequel to the first movie !
