Thanks to Paranormal Activity, producer Jason Blum has become a big of a micro-to-mid budget powerhouse, bringing us the likes of Insidious, The Purge, Dark Skies and Sinister. Now he’s getting slightly less horror-centric with the thriller The Boy Next Door, which will star Jennifer Lopez (Blum also produced films like The Reader, so he’s not just about scares).
It’s another low-budget effort from the producer, costing just $3-$4 million, according to Variety.
The actress will play a recently separated mother who strikes up an affair with recently arrived in town teenage boy. However, when her son befriends her inappropriate love interest, things take a turn for the worse and the mother tries to abruptly end the relationship. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this doesn’t work out well for anyone involved.
xXx and The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen is in talks to direct from a script by Barbara Curry. The plan is to shoot this autumn, before Lopez is due to return as a guest judge on American Idol in January.
