Bourne Identity and Mr & Mrs Smith director Doug Liman is in early discussions to direct the action-thriller Narco Sub, according to The Wrap. He’s certainly not the first director to show interest in it though.
Tony Scott had been attached to direct back in 2011, but sadly his involvement ended when he died. Last February Joe Carnahan flirted with the project. Now he’s gone and Liman is coming aboard. The title refers to small submarines that South American cartels use to smuggle their illegal drugs into the US. It’s previously been reported that it will be in the same vein as Tony Scott’s thrillers Crimson Tide and Man on Fire.
David Guggenheim (Safe House) wrote the screenplay. Liman is currently in post-production on the sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise. It’ll be out next June.
