Not too many people have complained when Chris Hemsworth has taken his shirt off as Thor, with even straight guys in awe at his physique. However is there a reason we need to see his pecs that’s fitting with the character? Well, reading between the lines of a new interview, the filmmakers think no, but Chris at least wants to pretend there’s some sort of justification.
Talking to MTV News he says about a seemingly gratuitous shirtless scene early on in Thor: The Dark World, “That [scene] kind of came from Joss [Whedon] actually. He just said that there needed to be something romantic in there. Then he said, ‘Chris, get your shirt off.’ I said, ‘Well, I don’t know. What’s the why? What are we doing?’ The justification was that it was him coming home from battle, washing blood off his hands. It is what it is. How to weigh into that without sounding like an idiot?”
As for how he gets that buff, Hemsworth says, “I basically overfeed on protein and endless amounts of chicken breast and steak and fish and vegetables and brown rice. There’s a slight sugar craving there, which is out of the diet, but when I finish shooting it’s usually enough.”
