After a few false starts, a World Of Warcraft movie is on its way, and to prove it really is gonna get made this time (probably), director Duncan Jones and visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer turned up to BlizzCon 2013 to showcase the video game adaptation.
They also showed off four concept art images, featuring Draenor, home of the Orcs; Dalaran, the magical city floating in the sky; Ironforge, the Dwarfs’ home city; and Stormwind, seat of the Alliance. It seems they’re keen to keep relatively close to the feel of the game, although with much better graphics. You can see them above and below.
During the Q&A session, director Duncan Jones revealed that an early version of the script focused heavily on the humans, but said that’s it now more balanced, “It’s about both sides. It’s going to be red and blue.” He also revealed the story focusses on the battle between the human Anduin Lothar and the Orc Durotan, focusing largely on the Eastern kingdoms of Azeroth.
While no cast members have been confirmed yet, Travis Fimmel has reportedly been offered a leading role, with Colin Farrell and Paula Patton also in talks. It’s believed it will start shooting this January in Canada.
