Paul Greengrass has a tendency to sign up for and then leave an awful lot of projects before he actually ends up directing one, so when you hear he’s attached, it’s far from certain he’ll actually end up making the movie. However now he’s circling a new one, as TheWrap reports Sony has picked up the rights to David Ignatius’ novel The Director for Greengrass to direct.
The book follows Graham Weber, who has just taken over as CIA director for a week when a young Swiss man claims that the agency has been infiltrated by hackers. The man also has a list of agents’ names to back it up. Weber joins forces with unstable CIA tech specialist James Morris, who runs the Internet Operations centre. They launch a secret mole hunt that takes them deep into the hacker underworld.
Ignatius previously wrote Body of Lies, which was adapted into a 2008 Ridley Scott movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.
