It’s tough to seen how the rivalry between two companies will become a movie, but Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg obviously think they can find a way. Collider reports they’ve signed up to co-write and co-direct a movie based on the upcoming book, Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo And The Battle That Defined A Generation, by Blake Harris.
The non-fiction book takes a close look at the fight between Sega and Nintendo in the 1990s, when both companies were battling for console dominance. Their striving to be the best (and to undermine the other) led to the massive gaming industry we have today, where Nintendo is still a player, but Sega has fallen by the wayside, replaced by Sony and Microsoft.
The book follows the fight between the 16-bit consoles the SNES and the Sega Mega Drive, both of which helped turn video games from something most people only saw on arcade machines, into an essential part of every young person’s home.
Rogen may also star in the movie, but as yet he’s just set for writing and directing duties.
