Lucasfilm and Disney are busy people. They’ve just started production of Star Wars: Episode VII, a couple of weeks ago Gareth Edwards signed up to direct one of and stand alone Star Wars movies that being planned, and now Chronicle’s Josh Trank has been announced for another.
As with Edwards’ movie, there’s no news on which character Trank’s film will centre on, although it’s believed films about Boba Fett, a young Han Solo and possibly Yoda are being developed.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy commented, “We’re thrilled to welcome Josh Trank into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace through Star Wars: Episode IX.”
Trank meanwhile has this to say, “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.
So far Chronicle is Trank’s only feature-length movie, but he is currently busy making The Fantastic Four reboot, which is due out next year. That suggests that his Star Wars film will come after Gareth Edwards’, possibly being released in 2018.
