Back in May it was revealed that Liam Neeson was going a bit Groot, as he’d signed on to play a talking tree in A Monster Calls, with Felicity Jones also set to star.
Now they have some company as THR reports that Sigourney Weaver has signed up for the adaptation of Patrick Ness’ award-winning children’s fantasy novel.
Ness has also written the script, which follows thirteen-year-old Conor O’Malley. He has to deal with his mother’s sickness, school bullies and a yew tree in his backyard that turns into a monster and tells him strange stories. However the monster/trees’ stories give him the tools to come to terms with the truths of life.
Jones is set to play the mother, with Weaver signing up to be Conor’s grandmother.
Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) is set to direct, with an October 2016 release date already set.
