Armie Hammer has seemed on the cusp of really breaking big for a long time, but the movies that might have helped him, such as The Lone Ranger and Mirror Mirror haven’t been huge successes – although few have blamed the actor for that.
He’ll be hoping this year’s Man From U.N.C.L.E. will help him up the ladder of stardom, but he’s also planning something a little smaller, as Deadline reports he’s set to star opposite Geoffrey Rush in The Final Portrait, which Stanley Tucci is set to direct.
Based on a true story, the film ‘follows the relationship between legendary Swiss painter Alberto Giacometti (Rush) and American art critic James Lord (Hammer), who decides to sit for a portrait by his friend. He is unprepared, however, for the painter’s demanding intensity, and the experience tests their relationship to the core.’
It’s not clear when it will shoot but it’s currently looking for buyers at Cannes.
