I’d almost forgotten the videogame series Assassin’s Creed was getting a movie, partly because it’s been in the works for so far. However, while game to movies have a bad reputation, you have to hope that the presence of Michael Fassbender might raise this one above the rest. It also appears they’re trying to make the film it’s own animal, as Fassbender will play a character created specifically for the movie.
He’s certainly looking good in the central role, as shown in this first promo image (which debuted on Yahoo!), which echoes the game covers while simultaneously looking suitably historical.
Alongside the image comes a synopsis: ‘[Callum] Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.’
The movie will reunite director Justin Kurzel with his Macbeth stars Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, with Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed also set to star.
