Since The Twilight Saga ended, Robert Pattinson has seemed to steer away from mainstream projects – although he does have the period adventure The Lost City Of Z coming up. You’d think a sci-fi flick would be a shameless bid for box office dollars, but when it’s directed by Claire Denis (Beau Travail) from a script by White Teeth’s Zadie Smith and her husband Nick Laird, it suggests this may be something unusual.
ScreenDaily has the news that Pattinson will star in Denis’ ambitious English-language debut, although what we still don’t know are the exact details of the plot. What we are aware of though is that it takes ‘place beyond the solar system in a future that seems like the present’.
Beyond Pattinson, Denis is pulling together an interesting bunch of people to help put the film together, including ‘Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, known for his Tate Modern installation The Weather Project; astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau, known for his work on black holes and cosmology; and Stuart Staples of indie band Tindersticks.’
The plan is to start shooting early next year.
