Last Knights (DVD Review)

June 28, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Clive Owen, Morgan Freeman, Aksel Hennie
Director: Kazuaki Kiriya
Running Time: 115 mins

I won’t waste your time too much with this review, as I can sum up my thoughts in two word – don’t bother. This is a Czech and South Korean co-production, loosely based on an old Japanese movie, and with a multi-national cast all speaking English in various random accents – it is therefore perhaps not surprising that it is a bit confused as to what the hell it’s all about.

Set somewhere that’s sort of a fusion of Medieval Europe and Asia, but also with fantasy undertones (it should come as no surprise that Last Knights feels a little like a misguided Game Of Throne fan film), Clive Owen is a knight who finds himself cast into the wilderness after the fall of his master (Morgan Freeman), and must band together with a group of other knights – 47 Ronin style – to regain their honour. Headhunters Star Aksel Hennie Joins Dwayne Johnson In Hercules

February 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

headhunters-slideBrett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson have been busy developing a new take on the legends of Hercules, and now it’s at the stage where they’re trying to fill out the rest of the class, with THR reporting that Headhunters stars Aksel Hennie has signed on to the movie.

The Norwegian actor will play Tydeus, Hercules’ right-hand man who ‘wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps.’

The film is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, which ignores the supernatural parts of the Greek myths, instead trying to give things a more grounded, real-world feel. Ryan Condal wrote the script.

It’s not known exactly when it will shoot, but a release date of August 8th, 2014 is already set. Hennie recently made his English-language debut in The Last Knights, alongside Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen.

Headhunters (Cinema)

Director: Morten Tyldum
Running Time: 100 mins

The antihero can be a difficult thing to pull off. If your protagonist is doing things that would normally be considered the province of the villain, you need to work extra hard to make the audience empathise with them or see them as heroic. You can get round it with something like someone’s family being attacked so they have a reason to go out for revenge, but what if your ‘hero’ is actually a bit of an asshole?

That’s what we have in Headhunters, but it actually manages to make it work, which is no small achievement. [Read more…]
