Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson Confirmed For Pitch Perfect 2

February 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pitch-perfect-review-slide
When it was announced a couple of weeks ago that Elizabeth Banks was set to make her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, it was suggested the likes of Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson were likely to returns. However at the time no deals were in place. Now that’s changed, as it’s been announced both actresses will be back for another round of a capella singing, according to THR.

It still isn’t known if other Pitch Perfect stars, such as Skylar Astin, Ben Platt, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp or Alexis Knapp, will be coming returning. No story details have been revealed either.

The first film was a surprise success, earning $113 million worldwide from a $17 million budget, and taking in over $135 million from Blu-ray and DVD sales. Even the soundtrack, which featured Anna Kendrick’s triple-platinum single ‘Cups’, sold over 1 million units.

It’s not clear when the sequel will shoot, although Universal plans to have Pitch Perfect 2 in cinemas in 2015.

Elizabeth Banks To Direct Pitch Perfect 2

January 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-banksPitch Perfect was proof that you don’t always need an original plot if you can make a familiar story incredibly funny and heartwarming. What many don’t realise is that Elizabeth Banks didn’t just have a small role in the movie, she also helped originate the idea for it and produced the film.

Now a sequel has officially been announced, and Banks is moving up into the director’s chair for it, according to THR. It will be her feature directorial debut – and if she can bring half the wit she does to her acting, we should be in for a treat.

As the first film was originally seen as a one-off – few expected it to gross over $100 million around the world – none of the original cast were signed for a sequel. However as most of them have publicly stated they’d love to make a follow-up, the likes of Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Skylar Astin are expected to return.

There’s no news on what direction the movie might take, although expect a lot more a capella singing.

Personally we’re voting for a bigger role for Freddie Stroma’s abs, which were certainly a high point of the first movie. And if you don’t believe us, take a look below.

Starring: Anna Kendrick, John Francis Daley, Craig Robinson, Thomas Lennon, Rob Corddry
Director: Paul Middleditch
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 28th 2013

It seems like a normal day, but then the Rapture happens. While not something that’s particularly well-known in the UK, the Rapture is popular with the more fervent evangelical sections of US Christianity. It basically says that when the end of the world begins, the righteous will be whisked off to heaven, leaving everyone else behind to deal with the apocalypse. [Read more…]

Anna Kendrick Joins Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here

May 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anna-Kendrick3Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here is proving slightly controversial, with some not liking the idea of him going to Kickstarter to get funding. The voices of discontent grew after it was revealed that after raising $2.6 million from crowd-funding – with none of the donors having a financial stake in the film – he then got another $8 million from traditional sources.

Whether Braff was right or not, he’s now busy filling out the cast. Mandy Patinkin signed up earlier this week, and now TheWrap reports that Anna Kendrick has also signed up to star.

The film is about 35-year-old Aidan (Zach Braff), an actor who is struggling to provide for his family. When his ailing father (Mandy Patinkin) can no longer afford to pay for his young children’s private school, Aidan reluctantly agrees to home school them, learning a lot about himself in the process.

Josh Gad is set to to play Aidan’s brother, who falls for a young woman (Kendrick) who enjoys cosplay. It’s also been suggested Jim Parsons and Braff’s Scrubs co-star Donald Faison should appear.

Kendrick’s next movie is the comedy Rapture-palooza, which hits cinemas this summer. It’s about the people left behind when the biblical Rapture comes, taking the righteous to Heaven and leaving everyone else to deal with the end of times. A new poster has now popped up online, which you can see below.

End Of Watch (Blu-ray)

March 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Frank Grillo, America Ferrera
Director: David Ayer
Running Time: 109 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 18th 2013

David Ayer has made a career writing and/or directing movies about gangs and the police, such as Training Day, S.W.A.T, Street Kings, Harsh Times and now End Of Watch. The movie is an attempt to bring a bit of mockumentary-style realism to the cop flick, although as viewers will soon realise, it’s actually a mix of mockumentary and extreme shaky cam (either that or Jake Gyllenhaal’s character doesn’t mind getting a friend to videotape him having sex with Anna Kendrick). Pitch Perfect (Cinema)

December 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp
Director: Jason Moore
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 21st 2012

It films were marked purely on originality, Pitch Perfect wouldn’t do very well. It’s Bring It On meets Glee, with a plot that delves into pretty much every cliché of the underdog competition subgenre it can find. Thankfully though, Pitch Perfect has an excellent trump card, which is that it’s very, very funny.

Beca (Anna Kendrick) heads for college, but she doesn’t want to be there. She wants to go straight to LA and get into the music business, but her father has told her she has to get a degree first. He does eventually make one concession though – if she throws herself into university life and joins at least one club, he’ll support her move to LA after the first year if she still wants to go. Anna Kendrick On For Romantic Musical The Last Five Years

October 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anna Kendrick has had success in the States turning to music with the a capella comedy Pitch Perfect (which reaches the UK in December), and it seems she’s sticking to tunes with the romantic comedy musical The Last Five Years.

Moviehole reports she’s signed up for the movie, which Richard LaGravenese is planning to direct, based on Jason Robert Brown’s acclaimed stage version. The film is looking for buyers at the American Film Market.

The site says, ‘The show, inspired by the playwright’s own personal life, used a form of storytelling in which the young woman’s story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and the male’s is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters did not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect. It was all quite genius.’ It’s not clear if the film will follow the same structure.

Kendrick will play struggling young actress Cathy, while her novelist husband Jamie is yet to be cast. The film chronicles the duo’s relationship, all through comedic songs sung by the actors.

Anna Kendrick Leads Shortlist For Captain America 2 Female Lead

August 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel Studios is gearing up for the superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which goes into production after Thor: The Dark World wraps later this year. As a result, the studio is currently searching for the female lead, with Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), and Imogen Poots (Fright Night) considered the front runners, according to The New York Post.

It isn’t officially known which character one of these actresses might play, although the speculation is that it’ll be Sharon Carter, who’s the niece of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in the first film, and who is the Cap’s love interest in The Winter Soldier comic book arc.

Chris Evans is slated to return as Steve Rogers/Captain America, with Anthony Mackie signing on earlier this month to star as The Falcon. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to return as Nick Fury, while Sebastian Stan be back as Bucky Barnes, who transforms into the title villain, The Winter Soldier.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Captain America: The First Avenger scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It’s due for release on April 4th, 2014.

Pitch Perfect Trailer Chimes In

June 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It all looks a bit Glee, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the first trailer for Pitch Perfect has arrived. The film is rebellious student (Kendrick), who is unhappy to be at a university at which her father is a professor. However she discovers her voice and becomes the secret weapon for the school’s female a cappella group. Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Adam Devine and Christopher Mintz-Plasse also star.
