Although it’s the type of film that could be either masterpiece or disaster, Clud Atlas is definitely an intriguing proposition. Based on Davit Mitchell’s book, it has three directors, leading two separate shooting units, telling six stories, all featuring the same actors, but who’ll be playing different genders and races in different stories.
It’s an ambitious and unusual movie, which apparently only got financed because Asian investors were intrigued by its idea of a single soul travelling through all the tales. Now some new concept art and an image from the movie have appeared online. They illustrate ‘An Orison of Sonmi~451′, which was the fifth story in the book, and is set in a corporate run Korea in 2144. The photo shows Bae Doona as the title character from the tale, but perhaps the most interesting image is the one above.
It’s a rendering of futuristic Seoul, but with the 19th Century sailing ship from Cloud Atlas’ first story in the foreground. It gives a hint as to how to tales – which stretch across 300 years – will be visually joined together. The movie, directed by Tom Twyker and the Wachoski siblings, should be in cinemas at the end of 2012. (Images via HanCinema)
