New Rock Of Ages Trailer

April 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rock Of Ages is one of those movies that could either be inspired genius or absolutely awful and from this trailer it’s tough to tell which. Coming across as a rather camp, tongue in cheek spoof on the 80s, filled with the music of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and more, it’s certainly an unusual beast. Now a new full trailer has arrived, which largely seems to be about making us wait to hear whether Tom Cruise can sing (and when he does, it appears the autotune has been working overtime). The film tells the story of a small town girl called Sherrie and city boy called Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams, all mixed in with the fortunes of a club and the rock star Stacee Jaxx (Cruise). The film, from gay director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is set for release on June 15th.

Rooney Mara Takes On Soderbergh’s Side Effects

January 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Not long ago it was revealed that Steven Soderbergh had cast Blake Lively in the lead role in his upcoming movie, The Side Effects. However it appears those who hold the purse strings didn’t think the Gossip Girl actrss had the clout to lead the movie, and while Soderbergh pushed forward, it cost him his financiers at Annapurna Pictures.

While he’d hope to get money elsewhere with Lively in the lead, it appears he hasn’t managed it, as Deadline reports that Lively has now been dropped and Rooney Mara has taken her place.

This thriller revolves around a young woman who gets hooked on prescription drugs due to her fear of her husband and his imminent release from prison. The actress will replace Blake Lively, who recently dropped out of the project. Channing Tatum will co-star as the horrible hubby, while Jude Law and Catherine Zeta Jones are set to play psychiatrists.

Shooting is scheduled to begin this April.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Feels The Side Effects For Steven Soderbergh

January 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there are a few financing problems with Steven Soderbergh’s movie The Side Effects, plans are moving ahead regardless, as Deadline reports that Catherine Zeta-Jones is in talks to reunite with Soderbergh (after Traffic and Ocean’s Twelve) on the movie.

Variety reports that that while it was announced last week that Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures would finance the movie, they’ve since backed out, and so Soderbergh is currently fielding offers from other places, with a deal expected to be signed before the end of Sundance. Earlier this month is was revealed Blake Lively, Jude Law, and Channing Tatum have also signed on, but with no money in place, their involvement isn’t 100% certain.

The film centres on Blake Lively’s character, a woman who gets addicted to prescription drugs out of fear that her husband (Channing Tatum) will be released from prison soon. Jude Law plays the woman’s new therapist, while Catherine Zeta-Jones will he Dr. Eric Siebert. The drama is said to be set in the world of psychopharmacology, the study of how drugs affect the human mind.

Steven Soderbergh is directing Side Effects from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns. Production is scheduled to begin this April in New York, assuming the money comes together.

Rock Of Ages Trailer – Tom Cruise rocks out!

December 14, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the more bizarre yet intriguing movies of 2012 is Rock Of Ages, based on the Broadway musical that takes a whole host of 80s hair metal tunes from the likes of Def Leppard and Foreigner, and mixes it with the story of small town girl called Sherrie and city boy called Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. If you watch the trailer, it’s more than a little bizarre, but could be a lot of fun. It’s just a shame that while there’s a big build up to seeing Tom Cruise as rocker Stacee Jaxx, we don’t get to see him rock out! It’s due in UK cinemas June 8th.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins Broken City

October 22, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Catherine Zeta-Jones could certainly do with a hit movie. She’s been rather hit by the curse of winning an actress Oscar, where picking up the gong sees what should be a big career boost turn into the high spot before a steep slide into mediocrity (if you don’t believe me, just look at a list of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress winners and see how most saw their career diminish almost from the moment they won).

Zeta-Jones hasn’t had a success since Ocean’s Twelve, and while she’s got Lay the Favorite, Playing The Field and Rock Of Ages coming up next year, she’ll be hoping the new movie she’s just signed up for, Broken City, will be a hit.

The film is about a Brooklyn private detective (Mark Wahlberg), who is hired by the New York City mayor (Russell Crowe) to discover the identity of his wife’s lover. When the lover turns up dead, the detective digs deeper into the case and uncovers a vast conspiracy involving the mayor. According to Deadline, Zeta-Jones will portray the mayor’s wife.

Allen Hughes will Broken City from a screenplay by Brian Tucker (it’s taken a while for it to get this far though, as the script made the Black List back in 2008). Production is slated to begin in November on a $50 million budget.
