Emily Blunt May Go Into the Woods Alongside Meryl Streep & Johnny Depp

May 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emily-bluntWith a plot that involves a journey where the main characters meet various fairytale characters along the way, a film version of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into The Woods, has plenty of room for star turns. It already has Meryl Streep as an evil witch, Johnny Depp going big bad wolf, and just the other day Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal entered negotiations to play some pompous princes.

Now someone else has entered talks to show off their singing skills in the movie, as Variety reports that Emily Blunt is in final talks for one of the lead roles. Into The Woods follows a baker and his wife who try to break a curse placed that’s left them childless, by confronting the witch (Streep) who caused their trouble in the first place. Assuming she signs on the dotted line, Blunt will be the baker’s wife.

Rob Marshall is set to direct, with filming kicking off later this year. There’s also still plenty of space for more movie stars doing a musical turn, as the likes of Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood are still to be cast.

Colin Firth, Emily Blunt & Adam Sandler Will Have A Murder Mystery

April 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

colin-firthFor a while John Madden has been plotting Murder Mystery as his follow-up to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, with Charlize Theron attached to star. Now the cast has grown significantly, with THR reporting that Colin Firth, Adam Sandler, and Emily Blunt have also signed up to appear in the movie.

James Vanderbilt’s script is about a pair of American newlyweds visiting Europe on their honeymoon who get implicated in a murder they witnessed. There’s no news on exactly who any of the cast members will play, although Sandler and Theron will presumably be the American couple.

The film will shoot in Germany later this year.

Wallace’s idea of a second chance is to become a second person. His road trip is derailed by the entrance of Michaela Fitzgerald, whom Arthur discovers passed out poolside at a motel. It takes her all of a couple hours to bust Arthur’s identity scam. It takes Arthur a lot longer to bust hers.Colin Firth and Emily Blunt co-star in this gently comic love story set in a perfect storm of identity crisis. “Arthur Newman,” from a screenplay written by Becky Johnston, looks at how two people, desperate to remake themselves, fall in love and find a way to accept responsibility for who they really are.’

Looper (Blu-ray)

January 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano
Director: Rian Johnson
Running Time: 119 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 28th 2013

Time travel is a tough nut to crack. It’s an idea that’s full of possibilities but it also has major pitfalls, not least of which are the endless paradoxes and logic knots that time travel films can tie themselves up in. Although Looper doesn’t completely resolve these problems, its gets closer than any film since Twelve Monkeys and presents a reality that’s actually pretty close to how some quantum physicists think time travel could actually work.

Indeed as Twelve Monkeys and Looper both feature Bruce Willis, perhaps all prospective time travel movies need to be given the Brucey seal of approval before they go into production. [Read more…]

Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt & Rebecca Hall Eyed for Transcendence

December 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rooney-maraA few weeks ago it was revealed that Johnny Depp had signed up to star in Transcendence, the directorial debut of Christopher Nolan’s longtime cinematographer, Wally Pfister. However as the time there was no info on the plot.

Now it’s been revealed that the movie will about the point of singularity, where humans build machines that are smarter than they are, and will see Depp playing a scientist whose brain is uploaded into a supercomputer. Now Deadline reports that Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt, and Rebecca Hall are the top candidates to play the female lead.

The movie is about Will (Depp) and his wife Evelyn – which is the role the trio of actresses are vying for. Along with another scientist, they are trying to create the world’s first sentient machine. When Will is murdered by extremists, Evelyn decides to upload Will’s brain into a supercomputer, which causes more problems than she initially thought.

Shooting on the movie is slated to begin on March 4th, although this could be problematic for Emily Blunt, as he schedule for All You Need Is Kill has still not been worked out yet, so it is possible that both shoots may overlap. Expect news on who’s landed the role soon.

Bill Paxton In Talks To Join Cruise For All You Need Is Kill

September 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise has been attached to All You Need Is Kill for over a year, with Emily Blunt joining him a few months ago. However it’s only now things have moved close enough to production that they’re starting to fill out the cast, with THR reporting that Bill Paxton is in talks for the film.

The film is based on a graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and tells the story of a solider (Cruise) who is forced to keep reliving the last day of his life over and over again after he is killed in a war against an alien race. The solider uses these time loops to train and become a better soldier (it’s a little bit Groundhog Day and a little bit like a videogame). Should he accept the role, Paxton will play the “tough leader of Cruise’s platoon.”

Dante Harper (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) wrote the script with Joby Harold (who is in the midst of doing a rewrite). Doug Liman will direct, with production set to start later this year in London.

All You Need Is Kill Adds Charlotte Riley

August 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Cruise is going to be hanging round quite a few British women on the set of All You Need Is Kill, as Emily Blunt has already signed up to co-star, and now she’s been joined by Tom Hardy’s fiance, Charlotte Riley (and just for the fact she gets to sleep with Tom, we hate her). It’ll be her first major role within the Hollywood system.

The movie is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s graphic novel, which is about a soldier who is killed during an on-going war between human and alien forces. He mysteriously keeps reliving his last day on Earth over and over again, eventually becoming a better soldier each time he steps into battle – sort of Groundhog Day meets a video-game. Charlotte Riley plays a fellow soldier fighting alongside Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Doug Liman will direct from an adapted screenplay by D.W. Harper, with Joby Harold performing the most recent rewrite. Shooting is scheduled to begin this autumn in London.

The Five-Year Engagement Red Band Trailer

April 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Five Year Engagement is bidding to be this year’s big gross-out rom com hit and from the evidence of this red band trailer, it’s gonna be a lot of fun. You normally think of women trying to strong-arm men into marriage, but The Five-Tear Engagement sees things from the other side, with Jason Segel being forced to delay marrying Emily Blunt so she can get on with her career. Here’s the synopsis: ‘The director and writer/star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall reteam for the irreverent comedy The Five-Year Engagement. Beginning where most romantic comedies end, the new film from director Nicholas Stoller, producer Judd Apatow and Rodney Rothman looks at what happens when an engaged couple, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.’ It’s due in UK cinemas June 22nd.

Your Sister’s Sister Trailer

April 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A year after his brother Tom’s death, Jack (Mark Duplass) is an emotionally unstable slacker. When he makes a scene at a memorial party, Tom’s ex-girlfriend Iris (Emily Blunt) offers up her family cabin on an island in the Pacific Northwest so Jack can seek catharsis in solitude. Once there, however, he runs into Iris’ sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), a lesbian reeling from the abrupt end of a seven-year relationship who finds solace in the affable Tom’s unexpected presence, and the two bond over a long night of drinking. The blurry evening concludes with an awkward sexual incident made worse by Iris’ sudden presence at the cabin the next morning, which sets into motion a twisted tale of ever-complicated relationships. The film hits the UK on June 29th.

Emily Blunt Says All You Need Is Kill Alongside Tom Cruise

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Emily Blunt isn’t an actress who’s immediately comes to mind for sci-i action, although she did okay with the subtle sci-fi in The Adjustment Bureau. However now she’s planning a bit more intense alien action, as Variety reports that she’s in talks to star in All You Need is Kill (which some sources say has been retitled We Mortals Are, although it’s not 100% clear whether it has) for Warner Bros. and director Doug Liman.

The film is about a soldier (Tom Cruise) who finds himself reliving his last day over and over again after being killed by aliens in a long-running war. Each time he comes back to life, he finds himself becoming a better fighter (as in a video game). Blunt will play a woman who fights alongside his character.

Doug Liman is directing from a screenplay by Dante Harper. It isn’t known when production will begin on this sci-fi tale.
