Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – Henry Cavill & Ben Affleck don’t see eye-to-eye

December 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-face-off-slideNext March Warner Bros./DC is making its massive bid for a superhero universe of its own with Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. However while much has been teased about Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck’s Man Of Steel and Caped Crusader not being fans of one another, but the new trailer also gives us a glimpse of Wonder Woman and the fact that she may be key to getting the bat and alien to work together.

It also features Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and shows us that we haven’t completely seen the end of Michael Shannon’s Zod.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.’

Take a look below. [Read more…]

Triple 9 Trailer – Chitwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson & Aaron Paul star

November 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Triple-9---trailer-grab-1Triple 9, from The Road and Lawless director John Hillcoat certainly has a good cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, Aaron Paul, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Gal Gadot and Clifton Collins Jr.

Now we get our first taste with a trailer, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realise the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.’

The film is due out in the UK on February 19th, 2016.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Trailer – Ben Affleck & Henry Cavill bring the dark & brooding

July 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-v-superman-trailer-slideBatman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice decided Comic Con was a good time to unveil the first full length trailer, and to show us this is a film that plans to be dark, brooding, epic and seemingly pretty intense. Along with Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman, it also gives us a look at Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

Take a look at the trailer below – it’s well worth watching. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is due out March 2016. [Read more…]

Chris Pine Up For Wonder Woman Love Interest Role

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-pineI’m hoping this doesn’t mean that despite supposedly being about a female superhero, DC is really going to make it just as much about a guy, but Variety reports that Chris Pine is in talks to join Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman.

If he does sign on, he’ll play Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor, who, in the comic, crash lands on the Amazons’ home island of Paradise during World War II. Wonder Woman falls for him after she nurses him back to health, and then when he returns to America she follows him – becoming Diana Prince, who in true comic fashion, Steve doesn’t realise is the same person as the hero, Wonder Woman.

Things are likely to be altered for the movie, not least bringing things up to date and tying it into DC’s universe, especially as Wonder Woman will make her first appearance in next year’s Batman Vs. Superman.

It gives Pine the potential of being part of two franchises. While it’s possible he may only be in one DC movie, it may also set his up for a key role in Justice League, as in one of Steve Trevor’s comic incarnations he is one of the main liaisons between the US government, the UN and the heroes, working alongside Amanda Waller. That character will already be part of the DC film universe as Violet Davis is playing her in Suicide Squad.

Wonder Woman is due out June 2017.

Patty Jenkins Replaces Michelle McLaren As Wonder Woman Director

April 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-vs-superman-wonder-woman-slideA couple of days ago Michelle MacLaren backed out of directing Wonder Woman and it looked like once more the quest to have a major superhero movie directed by a woman would fail. However Warner/DC have moved quickly to replace her with Monster helmer Patty Jenkins, according to THR.

It’s not Jenkins first involvement with superheroes as at one point she was set to direct Thor: The Dark World, but left after a disagreement over the direction of the movie. However now it looks like she may enter the comic book realm after all.

Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman, and we’ll first get to see her in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The standalone Wonder Woman movie will arrive June 23rd, 2017 and is expected to shoot later this year (hence why Warner wanted to replace MacLaren so quickly).

Jenkins may end up not being the only female director in the superhero universe, as rumours suggest Angelina Jolie is being considered for Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

Michelle MacLaren In Talks To Direct Wonder Woman

November 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michelle-maclarenHollywood is general has a hideous record of giving major movies to female directors – even the first female Best Director Oscar winner, Kathryn Bigelow, didn’t find that success until she stepped away from Hollywood and went looking for films in the indie realm. Superhero movies are no exception, as while Thor: The Dark World was nearly helmed by Patty Jenkins, she was eventually replaced by a man, much to Natalie Portman’s annoyance.

However now it may finally happen, as Variety reports that Breaking Bad producer/director Michelle MacLaren is in talks to direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. As with many other directors who’ve been inducted into the world of Hollywood special effects tentpoles in the last couple of years, she’s also worked on Game Of Thrones.

There’s no news on the plot of the film, although Gal Gadot will play the role, with the character being introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although there have been some suggestions the film will take us back to the characters origins, at the moment it’s impossible to say.

Assuming MacLaren gets the job, she’ll be shooting the movie next year, for release June 23rd, 2017.

Wonder Woman Gal Gadot May Be Ben-Hur’s Female Lead

October 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gal-gadotAt the moment the majority of the general public couldn’t pick Gal Gadot out of a lineup (despite the fact she’s appeared in a few Fast & Furious movies), but Hollywood is betting big on the actress. She’s already lined up to play Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman and a solo movie, and now THR reports that she’s in early talks to take the female lead in the planned remake of Ben-Hur.

Assuming she signs on, she’ll join Jack Huston as the title character, alongside Toby Kebbell as Messalla. While the two were friends as boys, with the coming of the Romans Messalla betrays Ben-Hur, which results in his being sold into slavery. He then meets a character played by Morgan Freeman, who teaches him to become a champion chariot racer.

Gadot would play a fellow slave called Esther, who Ben-Hur falls for.

The story take place in parallel to that of Jesus, which its said will be more central to this version that the peripheral (and never properly seen) figure he was in the Oscar-winning 1959 version.

Timur Bekmambetov is set to direct from a screenplay by Keith R. Clarke, with production set to kick off early next year.

Out Actor Ezra Miller Will Be The Big Screen Flash, Amongst Other Major DC Comics Movie Announcements

October 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ezra-miller-slideA few months ago Warner Bros announced release dates for a load of DC Comics movies, but other than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, it didn’t say exactly which superheroes would appear in which movies.

That’s now changed, with 10 films having been announced running up to 2020. So what are we getting?

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
  • Suicide Squad (2016)
  • Wonder Woman (2017)
  • Justice League Part One (2017)
  • The Flash (2018)
  • Aquaman (2018)
  • Shazam (2019)
  • Justice League Part Two (2019)
  • Cyborg (2020)
  • Green Lantern (2020)

There’s also plenty of casting news, with confirmation that Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck will return for Justice League, while Gal Gadot will be in Wonder Woman’s shoe in a solo movie, and Jason Momoa will indeed be Aquaman.

On top of that, while Grant Gustin is playing Flash on the small screen, queer actor Ezra Miller (Perks Of Being A Wallfower) will take on the role on the big screen. Ray Fisher meanwhile will by Cyborg. The fact both those roles have already been cast strongly suggests we’ll be seeing them in Justice League and they may even pop up in Batman v Superman in one way or another.

If that weren’t enough, there are also likely to be standalone Batman and Superman movies, so Warner really is betting big on its comic book world and that it can find the same sort of success that Marvel has. Of course if the movies aren’t as successful as they hope, the plans they’ve announced may well change.

Gal Gadot Joins Kevin Costner & Ryan Reynolds In Criminal

August 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gal-gadotAt the moment there are a lot of people who have no idea what a Gal Gadot is. However in the next couple of years the Fast & Furious actress has a great shot of becoming a household name. She’s currently filming the role of Wonder Woman in Superman Vs Batman: Dawn Of Justice, and now she’s booked another film, Criminal, according to THR.

Last weekend Ryan Reynolds also signed up to star alongside Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones, which is about a ruthless killer (Costner) who chooses to take part in a scientific experiment instead of spending the rest of his life in jail. He gets implanted with the brain of a recently-murdered CIA field operative (Reynolds) in the hope that he will stop a diabolical plot.

Gadot is set to play Reynold’s wife.

Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) is set directing from a screenplay by David Weisberg and Douglas Cook.

The First Official Pic Of Gal Gadot As Wonder Woman Is Here

July 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-vs-superman-wonder-womanAt Comic Con today Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot took to the Hall H to a rapturous reception in order to talk about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Things went into overdrive when the audience was shown a special teaser, giving them a look at Affleck as Batman, with fans suggesting the footage suggested the the hero is styled very closely to how he looked in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Rises. There’s no news on whether that teaser will be released outside Comic Con, but Zack Snyder did ensure there was something for those not in San Diego – the first official image of Gal Gadot in full costume as Wonder Woman.

I doubt the outfit will please feminists (indeed there’s a slightly Michael Bay female-fetishism about it), but it does look cool, and hopefully in the film she’ll get to kick ass and we’ll forget she apparently was concerned more about her costume’s sex-appeal than it’s ability to help her do her job.

Take a good look at it above.
