Amber Heard Gets Paranoia Alongside Liam Hemsworth

June 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman and Lucas Till have already signed up for the thriller Paranoia, and now they’ve got a female co-star, as Variety reports Amber Heard is in negotiations to join the film.

Liam Hemsworth stars as Adam Cassidy, an ambitious young man trying to get ahead in his entry-level job at a telecommunications firm. After he makes a costly mistake, the company CEO agrees not to turn him in if he spies on a rival company. Amber Heard is set to play a potential love interest for Adam, who works at the company he is spying on.

Robert Luketic is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall, which he adapted from the novel of the same name by Joseph Finder. Shooting is scheduled to start next month.

Gary Oldman & Dominic Monaghan Join Monster Butler

May 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Monster Butler sounds likes the sort of title a Dreamworks Animation flick would have, it’s actually something potentially far more interesting, as it’s a biopic of a bisexual jewel thief/con man/serial killer! It’s also pulling a decent cast together, as THR reports that Gary Oldman, Dominic Monaghan, Malcolm McDowell and Joanne Whalley are all onboard.

McDowell has the lead role as Roy Fontaine (born Archibald Hall), who spent most of his life working as an outwardly respectable butler, while secretly committing all manner of crimes and murders. The movie will chronicle his personal descent into darkness leading up to his eventual capture.

Oldman will portray Wiggy, a taxidermist with anger issues and business on the side who partners with Fontaine on a number of crimes before things get heavy. Monaghan will play David Wright, a key player in Roy’s life and who also serves as his Achilles’ heel. Their relationship begins in prison and restarts when they both work on an estate. But a blackmail attempt forces Fontaine’s hand and begins his descent into murder and mayhem.

Shooting will start in June in Scotland.

Gary Oldman Joins RoboCop Remake

May 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The always dependable Gary Oldman has signed on to star in MGM Studios’ planned remake of the classic half-man half-machine sci-fi RoboCop, which José Padilha (Elite Squad) is set to direct.

In March that The Killing star Joel Kinnaman signed up to play Alex J. Murphy, a Detroit cop who is shot and left for dead on the street. He is rebuilt as the half-man half-robot crime-fighting machine known as RoboCop, who goes on a mission to clean up the mean streets.

Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who created the title character and becomes torn between the morality of this machine trying to reclaim its humanity, and the needs of the corporation he works for. The character was not featured in the original 1987 Robocop, but could be an interesting addition.

The film will shoot in Toronto later this year. (Source: THR)

Lawless Character Posters – Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf & more

May 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago we had the trailer for Lawless, which debuts at the Cannes Film Festival ahead of release later this year. And to go alongside the film’s premiere, a set of character posters have been released via Huffpo, showing off Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Jessica Chastain and more’s 1930s gangster style look.

Directed by John Hillcoat from a script by him and Proposition cohort Nick Cave, the movie is based on Matt Bodurant’s book about the author’s grandfather and two great-uncles, who were part of a fierce criminal gang at the centre of the US’s moonshine trade during prohibition. The story also follows a writer named Sherwood Anderson, who is on the trail of the bootlegging gang. The film has a great cast, with Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska onboard. It’ll hit UK cinemas on August 31st.

Lucas Till Joins Liam Hemsworth In Paranoia

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago it was revealed that Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, and Gary Oldman were all attached to the thriller Paranoia, and now Variety reports they’ve got some company as X-Men: First Class’ Lucas Till is in talks to join the cast.

Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager (Hemsworth) at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberates’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. After getting caught, he’ll have to go to prison unless he agrees to infiltrate Wyatt’s biggest competitor, Trion Systems, to discover what he can about their top secret project. Lucas Till will play a co-worker/friend of Liam Hemsworth’s character.

Robert Luketic is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall, with the plan being to shoot it sometime this summer.

Three years after it was first announced, the thriller Paranoia is finally moving forward, with Deadline reporting that Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth are all in talks to star in the movie.

Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberate’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. Five New Dark Knight Rises Pics Emerge

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There no doubt that the film more people are excited about this year than any other is The Dark Knight Rises, and as a result they’re pouring over any new info and pics that emerge. Now five new images have arrived via the print and online editions of EW, which you can see above and below.

And if you’ve been wondering whether you’ll be able to understand Bane in the movie, Nolan is still saying he won’t be clearing up the dialogue. He comments, “I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.” It’s also been confirmed that the film will feature a rebuilt Wayne Manor and Batcave.

See Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain & More Take On Cinematic Villains

December 8, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Every year around awards season, the New York Times uses its muscle to get a bunch of top actors to dress up and pose for unsual pictures, all related to a different theme. This year’s theme is ‘Touch Of Evil’ and it sees everyone from Brad Pitt to George Clooney taking part, dressed up as some of cinema’s greatest villainous archetypes.

We’ve gathered together some of the images below, but you can get a better look over at the NYTimes site, along with videos of the stars, which sadly aren’t embeddable. It’s incredible how they get all these people to take part, and it makes for some great shots.

Ken Watanabe Offered Akira

November 23, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Gary Oldman had been offered the role of a colonel in the planned live-action version of Akira. Now it appears he’s turned down the part (or at least a deal couldn’t be made) as Twitch reports that Ken Watanabe has been offered the part instead.

The Colonel is essentially the bad guy, who runs a series of government experiments designed to unleash latent paranormal powers that certain people possess. The movie will follow Kaneda as he tries to rescue his friend Tetsuo from those experiments.

Hopefully Watanabe will sign on, as despite the Japanese origins of the manga and anime, so far everyone rumoured for the film – including Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Keira Knightley, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter – have been resolutely white.

Watanabe is one of the few Japanese actors who’s known internationally (thanks to the likes of Last Samurai and Inception), so he’d make a welcome addition to the cast.

Jaume Collet-Serra will direct, with shooting rumoured for early next year.
