The Expendables 3 Trailer – Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger & co. get explosive once more

June 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

expendables-3-bannerThe Expendables are returning for what may be their last adventure (although the female-led spin-off The Expendabelles is still in the works), but they want to go out with a bang, with what may be their best cast yet.

This time around there’s the likes of  Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kellen Lutz, Ronda Roussey, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In The Expendables 3, Barney (Sylvester Stallone), Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables – but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.’

It’ll be in cinemas this summer. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Miranda Hart Joins Melissa McCarthy & Jason Statham In Paul Feig’s Spy Comedy

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miranda-hartIf you told most people that comedienne Miranda Hart and Jason Statham were going to make a movie together, they’d probably laugh at you.

However it’s going to happen, according to Deadline, as Hart has joined the cast of Paul Feig’s currently untitled Spy comedy (which was previously known as Susan Cooper and may end up simply as ‘Spy’), alongside Statham and Melissa McCarthy.

Not too much info has been released about the comedy, other than that it’s about an unlikely female secret agent, played by McCarthy. Statham is a spy on the same side as the title character. There’s not a huge amount more info than that, although it’s previously been said that the film was inspired by the grittiness of Casino Royale, even if it gives a more comedic spin to things.

The movie is just starting to shoot, with Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Bobby Canavale also set to star. With Feig having been behind Bridesmaids and The Heat, it should be one to watch.

Feig comments on the new casting,”I’ve been a fan of Miranda’s for years and am so excited to bring her to the big screen. I’m also hoping I’ll finally get back that lawnmower I loaned her last summer.”

Hart meanwhile says, ”I am beyond excited to work with Paul who I am a huge, huge fan of. And it will be nothing less than a hoot to work with Melissa McCarthy. By the end of the film I plan to have married Jude Law and have Melissa as our adopted daughter.”

jude-lawFor a while Melissa McCarthy has been attached to the spy comedy Susan Cooper, which will reunite her with Bridemaids and The Heat director Paul Feig. More recently Jason Statham signed up to star. Now they have some company as Variety reports that Jude Law is set to join the film.

Not too much info has been released about the movie, other than that it’s about an unlikely female secret agent, played by McCarthy. Statham is a spy on the same side as the title character. Jason Statham Finds Viva La Madness, Taking On The Character Daniel Craig Played In Layer Cake

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-statham-crankIt looks like we’re getting a sort-of sequel to the 2004 movie Layer Cake, which helped turn Daniel Craig into a bona fide movie star. It’s only sort-of, as while it’s based on the JJ Connolly’s sequel novel, it seems a whole new filmmaking team will take on the tale, according to Deadline.

Jason Statham and his producing partner Steve Chasman have acquired the rights to Connolly’s 2011 novel, Viva la Madness!. Statham is also set to play the same nameless protagonist that Daniel Craig played in Layer Cake.

Here’s the description on the novel, ‘From the many levels of the London underworld portrayed in Layer Cake, Viva La Madness! moves to international crime with trans-Atlantic drug deals, money laundering and high-tech electronic fraud, portrayed with the same uncanny believability. The anonymous hero of Layer Cake is pulled back into the drug game before he can escape to a sunny retirement: in an authentic but dazzling combination of London low-life, Caribbean high-life and Venezuelan drug cartels toting machine-guns in Mayfair. The brilliance and the madness is back: ‘Viva la madness!”

As he did with Layer Cake, JJ Connolly will write the screenplay. There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Hummingbird (Blu-ray)

October 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jason Statham, Agata Buzec, Vicky McClure, Benedict Wong
Director: Steven Knight
Running Time: 100 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: October 21st 2013

Jason Statham’s career so far has turned him into a brand as much as a movie star – as with many action stars before him, his name has come to connote big, dumb action movies with OTT stunts and plots that are simply showcases for the action. It’s done him well and his name is often enough to sell the movie to mindless action fans, but it becomes a problem when he attempts to do something different. Hummingbird has come in for a bit of flack, not so much because of what it is but due to what it isn’t. Namely it isn’t a ‘Jason Statham’ movie. Indeed it has more in common with the arthouse than the likes of Crank. [Read more…]

Homefront Red Band Trailer – Jason Statham deals with a nasty James Franco

October 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco and Jason Statham might not seem like obvious co-stars, but then Franco never likes to do the expected. With Homefront he not only has an unexpected co-star, but he get to work from a script by Sylvester Stallone, and play the extremely nasty bad guy.

The movie is about Phil Broker (Statham), a former DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town to escape his past. However, he discovers the town is overrun by a dangerous meth distributor named Gator (James Franco).

While Stallone wrote the script, based on Chuck Logan’s novel, he neither stars not directs the film. The film’s due out in late November in the US and December 6th in the UK. Take a look at the new, dramatic red-band trailer above. [Read more…]
