Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt & Jeff Goldblum Join Mortdecai

January 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-goldblumJohnny Depp has been long been attached to star in Mortdecai for quite a while, and now he has some new company as Aubrey Plaza, Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum have all joined the cast of the action comedy. They’ve been announced partway through production, as the London shoot was wrapped and filming has now moved to Los Angeles.

Plaza, Platt and Goldblum join Depp, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany and Paul Whitehouse. David Koepp is directing the film from a screenplay by Eric Aronson.

The films sees debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist. He must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

October 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Wes Anderson’s is a bit of a love him or be bored by him director, there’s no doubt a lot of people adore his quirky, eccentric movies – and that includes a lot of famous names, who are happy to show up to appear in his flicks. Indeed, he’s almost got his own repertory company with names such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and Ed Norton, who are all back for The Grand Budapest Hotel.

They’re not the only great names, as Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Saoirse Ronan, Lea Seydoux, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson also star,

The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.’

Jeff Goldblum & Bill Pullman Back For Independence Day Sequel

June 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeff-goldblumA couple of days ago, Roland Emmerich said that Will Smith wouldn’t be back for the planned sequel to Independence Day as he was simply too expensive, but he did promise many of the original cast members would return.

Now Movies.com has been pressing Emmerich for news on who will be back, with the director telling them that both Jeff Goldblum, who played the genius David Levinson, and Bill Pullman, who was President Thomas Whitmore, will return. It’s not a surprise that Pullman is back, as he’s suggested as much himself, but many were wondering about Goldblum.

There’s still not much info on the plot of the film, believed to be called ID Forever, or how Goldblum and Pullman fit into it, although Emmerich has previously said its set 20 years after the first film and explores the repercussion of the alien attack.

There’s also no info on any of the other original cast, such as Judd Hirsch and Mary McDonell will return as well. Fox recently set a July 3rd, 2015 release date for the movie.

Independence Day Going 3D Summer 2013

June 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Titanic 3D having grossed $344 million around the world, it seems Fox is looking into what other titles in its back catalogue it can post-convert in the hope of making a bit more cash. Now they’ve announced that the studio and director Roland Emmerich, in conjunction with Stereo 3D (which did the work on Titanic), will produce a three-dimensional version of Independence Day, which will be released worldwide on July 3rd, 2013.

To be honest I have reservations about whether this will be a success. With some films like Titanic and Jurassic Park, a post-conversion 3D makes sense, but while Independence Day was a big hit in 1996, I’m not convinced it’s retained enough popularity to make a re-release a major success. Perhaps I’m wrong, and Fox may be using the conversion to see whether it’s worth backing the pricey sequels Roland Emmerich has long had in the works.

Fox has also set several other dates, with Steven Spielberg’s epic Robopocalypse shifting to April 25, 2014 (ID43D now occupies its former release date), while on May 23rd, 2014 the studio unleashes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes worldwide. July 18th, 2014 meanwhile sees the release of the X-Men: First Class Sequel, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Jeff Goldblum Set To Play A Gay Dad On Glee

January 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Since the early days of Glee, we’ve known that diva Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) has two gay dads, but unlike Kurt’s dad and Finn’s mom, we’ve never met either of her parents. There’s been plenty of speculation though as to who should play her dads if they were ever to show up in the series, with Glee creator Ryan Murphy even suggesting at one point we should never see them, as they couldn’t live up to expectations.

However now it appears we will indeed see at least one of them, as TNT reports that Jurassic Park and Independence Day star Jeff Goldblum has signed on to play one of Rachel’s pops, with Brian Stokes Mitchell playing the other. It will give Goldblum a chance to show off his singing skills, as he will apparently take part in a duet with Rachel in the episode, which’ll be screened around Valentine’s Day.

There had been rumours Elton John would play the part, but his touring schedule rules him out.
