New The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth must deal with warring sisters

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winter-war-slide1There’s no Kristen Stewart in The Huntsman: WInter’s War, as this is what happened before the events of Snow White. And as this new trailer shows, that involves warring sisters, played by Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Discover the story that came before Snow White in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

‘Theron stars as evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her good sister Freya (Blunt) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power she never knew she possessed. Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love.

‘As a war for domination escalates between the two queens, the hero standing between them is Freya’s most elite Huntsman, Eric (Hemsworth). Alongside fellow warrior Sara (Chastain)—the only woman who has ever captured his heart—Eric must help Freya vanquish her sister…or Ravenna’s wickedness will rule for eternity.’

The film will be in cinemas on April 8th.

Natalie Portman & Nicholas Hoult Up For Xavier Dolan’s Death and Life of John F. Donovan

February 10, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Nicholas-Hoult

Back in 2014 Jessica Chastain, Kathy Bates, Susan Sarandon and Kit Harington all signed up to star in the first English-language film from queer Canadian writer/actor/director Xavier Dolan. It’s taken longer to get it going than originally planned (largely because he slotted in the upcoming It’s Only the End of the World beforehand), but Dolan has managed to hang on to his cast, along with previously announced actors such as Michael Gambon, Bella Thorne, Chris Zylka and Emily Hampshire.

However, he’s decided that isn’t an impressive enough ensemble, as Variety reports that Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult and Thandie Newton have joined The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The film is about an American TV star (Harington) with everything working out for him who has a secretive correspondence with an 11 year old in London. When a gossip columnist (Jessica Chastain) makes the whole thing look indecent, his life is turned upside-down.

It’s not clear who the newly announced actors will play, but it is known that Kathy Bates is set to be the actor’s high-powered manager, while Sarandon will play his mother.

Film rights are currently being sold at the Berlin film festival, with plans to shoot later this year.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth & Charlize Theron head back to a fantasy world

November 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winters-war-character-poster5-slideAfter some character posters a couple of days ago (and some new ones you can see below), comes the trailer for the sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is gone, but both Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are back, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The fantastical world of Snow White and the Huntsman expands to reveal how the fates of The Huntsman Eric and Queen Ravenna are deeply and dangerously intertwined. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles in The Huntsman Winter’s War, an epic action-adventure in which they are joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, as well as director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Producer Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) once again leads the team in a breathtaking new tale nested in the legendary saga.

‘Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.

‘When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable…unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.’

The movie hits UK cinemas April 22nd. [Read more…]

Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt & Jessica Chastain Get The Huntsman: Winter’s War Character Posters

November 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winters-war-character-poster2-slideSnow White And The Huntsman star Kristen Stewart may have been let go (having an affair with the married director of the first movie probably didn’t help her chances of getting the call for the sequel), but Chris Hemsworth returns as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as The Wicked Queen for The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

And yes, that is a new title, as previously it was just called The Huntsman.

A set of character posters has been released, which also feature Emily Blunt as The Ice Queen and Jessica Chastain as The Warrior, with a trailer promised for Wednesday.

Now a vast amount has been released about the plot, but Variety reports that, ‘Blunt plays Theron’s sister, who flees their kingdom after suffering a betrayal. She gains the ability to freeze any enemy, becoming an ice queen who holes up in a wintery palace. Hemsworth and Chastain play her trusted lieutenants. But they run afoul of their queen when they refuse to follow orders and harden their hearts to love.’

As the trade mag notes, ‘the whole thing sounds like “Frozen” with battle scenes’, and they’re not wrong.

It’ll be in UK cinemas April 22nd 2016. [Read more…]

The-Martian-Teaser-QuadDuring a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet.

With only meager supplies, Watney must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

August 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-poster2Everything we’ve seen for Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house tale, Crimson Peak, has been impressively gothic, and that’s certainly true of the new poster that’s been released and which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ Crimson Peak, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam.

The Martian Trailer – Let’s bring Matt Damon home!

June 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Martian-Teaser-poster1The Martian may be a sci-fi movie above, but the poster above looks just as much like a call to action for the women and gay men who go week at the needs at the sight of Matt Damon. I’m sure they’d be more than will to help rescue him from the Red Planet.

Here’s the synopsis: During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. A Most Violent Year (Blu-ray Review)

May 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, David Oyelowo, Elyes Gabel, Albert Brooks
Director: J.C. Chandor
Running Time: 125 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 18th 2015 (UK)

A Most Violent Year is one of those movies where, with stronger marketing, it could have gained traction during the awards season, perhaps not winning much but certainly getting more than just one Golden Globe nomination (a Supporting Actress nod for Jessica Chastain).

Director JC Chandor impressed many with his look at the start of the financial crash in Margin Call, and also with his almost dialogue-free Robert Redford alone-at-sea movie, All Is Lost. In many respects A Most Violent Year is a more tradition movie than either of those films, but it’s still extremely stylish and accomplished. [Read more…]

Crimson Peak Trailer – Into Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house with Tom Hiddleston & Jessica Chastain

May 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-pic2Normally you can’t keep Guillermo Del Toro from talking about his movies, but he’s been a tiny bit more secretive with Crimson Peak. But the shades of his haunted house are being pulled back with a new trailer.

As you’d expect from the director it certainly looks stylish with Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska getting a little creepy.
