First Poster For Simon Pegg’s Absolutely Anything

February 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

absolutely-anything-promo-posterWe’re never going to have another proper Monty Python movie, but we’re getting close, as Absolutely Anything will feature the voices of John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin & Terry Gilliam, although it will centre around Simon Pegg’s characters.

With shooting starting next week, a promo poster has arrived, via Collider.

Pegg will play Neil Clarke Clarke, “a disillusioned school teacher who suddenly finds he has magical powers, bestowed upon him by aliens.” Those extra-terrestrials are voiced by the Pythons. Robin Williams is also onboard as the voice of Neil’s dog.

Starring: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam
Director: Various
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 8th 2013

This film has been released 23 years after the untimely death (or not, if you look at his lifestyle) of Graham Chapman. The Film is not calling itself A Monty Python film, but a Graham Chapman film, and after watching it you might understand why.

The synopsis: in 1989 Chapman – ‘a freeloading bastard’ (according to John Cleese at his funeral) sadly ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘E’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! – OK enough Parrot Sketch quotes already!! (which he co-wrote with John Cleese) [Read more…]

A Liar’s Autobiography Trailer – An anarchic animated take on Python Graham Chapman’s life

September 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Monty Python’s Graham Chapman was a bit of a unique character, so it is perhaps fitting that he’s made a new movie, 23 years after he died. It’s the sort of silliness he’d have loved. The animated film is based on his recently uncovered reading of his memoir, A Liar’s Autobiography. The movie, directed by Terry Jones’ son, also features the voices of the other Pythons (except Eric Idle), with 14 different animation companies working on various parts of the film to tell the story of the great gay comedy performer. It looks suitably anarchic and could well be a fascinating ride, as Chapman was certainly an interesting guy.

Spud (DVD)

September 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Troye Sivan, John Cleese, Jamie Royal, Sven Ruygrok, Tanit Phoenix
Director: Donovan Marsh
Running Time: 103 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 3rd 2012

For the last decade or so, John Cleese has given the distinct impression that he’s not really that interested in doing anything more than get his cheque and pay off his ex-wives, rather than really putting any effort in. It’s nice then that with Spud he gives us a reminder that he’s a genuinely talented chap, and not just with comedy.

Based on a book by John van de Ruit, Spud follows young John Milton (Troye Sivan), who’s about to start at the rather posh South African boarding school, Michaelhouse, just as Nelson Mandela is being freed from prison (although the political changes in South Africa play a perhaps surprisingly small role in the movie). It doesn’t take long for him to feel like an outsider, not least because he’s smaller than most of the other boys and gets the nickname Spud when they see the size of his genitals (needless to say, it’s not a compliment). Surviving Pythons Reuniting For Absolutely Anything

January 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Graham Chapman’s death in 1989, the surviving members of Monty Python haven’t done all that much that’s involved all of them, however John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin are reteaming for a new project.

Variety reports that Jones is working on a new live-action/CG comedy called Absolutely Anything, and while we won’t get to see the Pythons on screen, we will hear their voices. They’re set to play ‘a group of aliens who endow an earthling with the power to do “absolutely anything” to see what a mess he’ll make of things.’

Jones hasn’t directed anything since 1996’s The Wind In The Willows, but it appears he’s been working on this new movie (on and off) every since, alongside screenwriter Gavin Scott. All the Pythons have agreed to take part, except for Eric Idle, but it’s said the producers are working on him.

Also onboard is Robin Williams, who’s set to play a talking dog who seems to understand more about the mayhem that ensues than anyone else does. He could also play another role, “a pompous Frenchman reminiscent of Inspector Clouseau.”

Jones says about the movie, “it’s not a Monty Python picture, but it certainly has that sensibility.”
