Snowpiercer International Trailer – Fresh look at Chris Evans In Bong Joon-ho’s English language debut

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Snowpiercer marks Korean director Joon-ho Bong’s (The Host, Mother) English-language debut. The film is a dystopian sci-fi set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are on the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe. However a revolution is brewing amongst the passengers inside.

The film has a great cast, although as you can see in the new character posters above and below, they’re not always completely recognisable. However the film follows Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner) and Yona (Ah-sung Ko).

The film will be out later this year.

Ian McShane, John Hurt and Joseph Fiennes Up For Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules

March 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

IAN-MCSHANEBrett Ratner is fast putting the cast together for Hercules, which has Dwayne Johnson attached to the title role, with Rufus Sewell and Aksel Hennie recently joining him. Now THR reports they’ve got more company as Ian McShane, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes and Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson have signed up.

The film is based on the Radical Publishing graphic novel that takes a different approach to the Greek god, taking out many of the supernatural elements. Instead of being the son of Zeus, Hercules is a fierce mortal who is feared by many. When he leads his group of mercenaries on their latest mission, the job turns out to be much more complicated that previously imagined.

McShane is playing Amphiarus, a priest, prophet, and warrior who serves as Hercules’ adviser.  It hasn’t been revealed who John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes and Rebecca Ferguson will play.

Brett Ratner is directing from a screenplay originally written by Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost), which is being polished by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Wanted 2). It’s expected to start shooting in the next few months.

Too often, gay characters and storylines are relegated to comedies and dramas only – trying to think of a 3Dimensional LGBT character in a western, horror or sci-fi is a difficult exercise for most audiences. This does however make it all the more poignant when a character does appear outside of their heteronormative genre. [Read more…]

Jayne Mansfield’s Car International Trailer

July 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailer for Billy Bob Thornton’s directorial venture, Jayne Mansfield’s Car, has debuted. Thornton also co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Espenson, which is about the culture clash of two families from different continents in 1969. Robert Duvall plays a man left to raise his children after his wife leaves him and goes to England to start a new family. However after the wife dies, she requests to be buried in the States, which brings together the woman’s American and English families for the first time – and not surprisingly, things get complicated. No UK release is currently set.

Anton Yelchin Joins Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive

June 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears Anton Yelchin likes vampires, as after last year’s Fright Night he’s heading back into a film about the bloodsuckers, although this time with a more arthouse bent, as Deadline reports that he’s signed on to star in Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, a drama about the centuries-long romance between two star-crossed vampires.

When it was first announced, the movie was due to star Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in what Jarmusch describes as a “crypto-vampire love story”, following the centuries-long love story of two vampire lovers. Since then John Hurt has signed on and there have also been rumours Tom Hiddleston has stepped in to replace Fassbender.

However what isn’t certain is who will play the central vampiric lovers. Jarmusch is deliberately keeping quiet about his plans, but it certainly sound like something larger scale than he normally takes on.

Octavia Spencer On For Joon-ho Bong’s Snow Piercer

February 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For years Octavia Spencer was stealing scenes but never getting particularly good roles. Thanks to The Help she’s now in demand and the favourite for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Now THR reports that she’s joined the cast of Korean director Joon-ho Bong’s Snow Piercer.

The intriguing story is set in an alternate future, where a failed experiment to stop global warming results in a new Ice Age. The frigid climate has killed off all life on Earth, except for the passengers aboard a train dubbed Snow Piercer. A class system develops among the passengers on this train, which ignites a revolt. Octavia Spencer will portray a passenger who joins the uprising in order to save her son. Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, and Kang-ho Song also star.

Joon-ho Bong is set to make his English-language debut with Snow Piercer, having found success with his excellent Korean movies, The Host and Mother. Chan-wook Park and Dooho Choi will produce. Production is set to begin in March.
